Quick Introduction Tips

1. Prepare a recipient colony that has been queenless for a few hours.

2. Place the introduction cage between brood frames and allow the bees to release the queen through the candy plug.

3. Avoid intrusive inspections for 5–7 days, then check for resumed egg-laying.

4. Use the smoker sparingly.

5. Avoid crushing bees when inserting the cage.

6. Feed lightly with syrup.

Advantages of Buckfast bees

Buckfast bee is a type of hybrid queen bee , particularly renowned for its resistance to mite parasites .

the queen bee Buckfast, in fact, in the early 1900s when this parasite decimated a very large number of bees throughout Europe, was selected precisely for its resistance characteristics.

An evolved hybrid that has inherited all the qualities of every single bee breed from which it comes through crossbreeding and experiments lasting over 70 years and which has not inherited their defects.

The pioneer who imported the queen bee Buckfast to Europe is Father Adam, famous for having found in the hybrid bee a breed capable of surviving the hostile environments caused by the parasite.

The father's forward-looking intuition was then picked up and taken up by many beekeepers who began to cultivate this breed in the following years and continuing to carry out studies on it to fully understand every single peculiarity.

The peculiarity of Buckfast fruitful queen bees

The queen bees from the Buckfast strain are the result of numerous crossings with many other well-selected breeds of bees to achieve a result of perfection unique in its kind: robustness, low tendency to swarm, sweetness, ease of handling, resistance parasites and other common diseases that contract bees and, last but not least, a high group instinct.

Furthermore, one of the most impressive peculiarities of this breed of bees is their hygienic-sanitary quality. In fact, Buckfast queen bees are able to clean themselves, to clean the other bees and the hive.

This quality had not been noticed in the past and it is an additional factor which, according to the latest studies of this breed, significantly increases its pedigree.
